Healing Together

"[He] created you from a single soul..."Surah An-Nisā, 4:1

Welcome to Collective Remembrance: a dedicated home for exploring healing and wellbeing rooted in a collective effort to return to who we are. This journey begins inwards, within oneself, and expands outward into community, and is fundamentally and primordially oriented upwards towards the One.

A halaqa — literally, a circle — a universal and primordial form of communal remembrance and return.

The name Collective Remembrance is anchored in a belief that when a community sets its intention on creating space for each other's healing while remaining collectively rooted in the Divine, the magnitude of healing possible is exponential, and the blessing of that space becomes palpable. When we witness and are witnessed in relationship, we remember something that was never truly lost: our shared origin and our shared return to the One. Collective Remembrance is both the practice and the promise — healing held together, and the forgotten memory of our shared testimony to Divine Oneness, restored together.

What Binds Us

One Soul

"Whoever saves a life, it will be as if they saved all of humanity." [5:32]

Humanity originates from a single soul. Beneath the illusion of separateness, we share one home. To sit with another person in presence is to witness their soul, and at the deepest level, our own selves. In this way, we are called towards remembering who we are and our journey of returning to the One.

Most healing work centers the individual. This work begins there too, but doesn't stop there — it is built on the conviction that what wounds us, and what mends us, both lie in the spaces between us: in family, in community, in the rooms we gather together and those that tear us apart. If we take that horizontal plane of relating to one another and turn it vertically, upwards towards Allah in surrender, magic happens. Al-Shaafi soothes our aching hearts. Transformation takes root.

"Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves." [13:11]

Healing Grounded in Sacred Wisdom

Healing unfolds across three relationships — self, others and the Divine. The aim is mizan: the balance and equilibrium of putting each in its proper place.

Balance & Equilibrium

At each stage, healing grounded in sacred wisdom is a blend of contemporary therapeutic practice and heart-centered, somatic healing rooted in the Islamic tradition's holistic understanding of the human being as mind, body, heart, soul, and spirit. This work draws on the classical framework of 'ilm al-nafs, centering the metaphysical heart as the seat of consciousness and intelligence, and integrating the body as the vessel through which healing occurs — at the individual, relational and collective levels.

Testimonials

In a world where the illusion of separation has become the norm, it was beautiful to reconnect with a part of myself that already lives in unity — rooted in awareness of Allah — and to experience this connection through one another, through witnessing and being witnessed in a beautifully held environment.

About

About Saman

Saman Hussain specializes in curating embodied, heart-centered, and experiential containers for healing and personal development, with a particular passion for the relational, collective and systemic. She is an instructor for Principles of Islamic Psychology in Practice at Cambridge Muslim College, the co-creator of the Shifaa Method Training Program, and is a certified practitioner with the International Association of Islamic Psychology.

Her global, multicultural work spans high-stakes mediation between indigenous tribal nations and the federal government, executive team coaching focused on trust and values alignment, heart-centered leadership development, community facilitation around cultural and racial wounds, interfaith dialogue, resilience and mindfulness education and healing work for individuals and groups across the globe. As a mentor practitioner, she trains and mentors practitioners in Islamic psychology, conflict resolution, coaching, and facilitation.

Across nearly two decades of practice, Saman has devoted herself to unearthing the alchemy and generative power of oneness that lives at the heart of the collective. She has witnessed healing move through groups in ways that are difficult to access in solitary work: walls come down, wounds are witnessed together, and something larger than any one person begins to move and come to life. Her role is to simply get out of the way and facilitate the larger yearning for healing and aliveness anchored in the One. Individual and collective healing, she believes, is only lasting and transformative when it is rooted upwards, towards the Divine. Her research continues to explore this terrain.
